Your Learning Style

How we learn is as important as what we learn. The reason being, our ability to understand and retain information is affected by how that information is delivered. There are a number of learning styles for example, visual, auditory and kinesthetic. The names for these styles vary however the meanings are relatively static.

For this discussion post I ask you to go to link - http://www.vark-learn.com/english/page.asp?p=questionnaire and fill out the learning style questionnaire. It will tell you what kind of a learning styles best suit you. Secondly, I want you to comment on this post by writing what type of learning style the questionnaire says you have and whether you agree with its analysis. Thirdly, I want you to comment on whether you think your instructors' teaching styles fit with your learning style.

  1. The questionairre says I have an aural learning style. I think this is accurate because I enjoy listening to audio books and listening to debates to understand arguements. When in university I enjoyed listening to lectures and taking notes. Fortunately, this style suits the current teaching techniques used in universities and specifically in the law department at Bilgi.

The questionairre suggests that my learning style is aural. I think that this is correct because I enjoy learning from visual objects, it makes me understand more easily and apply these in my academic life. So far my instructors' teaching style fit my learning style, I did not have any complains.

According to the questionairre, my learning style is known as aural.I'm not sure if it's quite accurate, since I prefer books over speeches while learning, but this questionairre suggests the other way around. But also it is a fact that I need to ask detailed questions about a new topic in order to understand it fully.I enjoy having discussions about the learning material in class, so this result is partly true.My instructors' teaching style usually fits my learning style.

  5. According to the questionnaire, my learning style is multimodel, visual and kinesthetic. I think it's true. Doing or watching something is more helpful to learn. Also i like learn by graphics and use applications. However, i made this test last year too and the results were same. So i tried techniques which are being suggested by questionnaire last year and i think i'm well done now thanks this.

The questionnaire says that I have a multimodal (visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic) learning style. I think the result reflects the truth because I don't have any preferences in learning; I can simply learn in any way. However, I usually chose visual ways; such as reading instructions or following diagrams. My instructors' teaching styles mostly fit with my learning styles because as I said, I don't have strict preferences.

The ways of thinking differ by person and by situation. According to the questionnaire my learning skill seems to be kinesthetic but I feel more like I am a visual person. I attribute more meanings into the things that are shown to me. However, as I said, I might learn in a very different way depending on the situation (for example, by reading or kinesthetically).

The questionnaire says that I am a kinesthetic person however, I think I learn more by hearing or visually. I would appreciate if the lesson occurs mostly with an explenation supported by visuals. But of course I cannot deny that trying is better than listening in specific cases.

The result of my test telling me that i have read/write learning style and i agree with the test. In general, i read the work for once and i repeat it several times. Also i think i am good at visual learning because it's easier to memorise than reading when you see the situation but it is almost impossible in our lessons.
