I went to the court-house of Kadıköy. There were 3 court room of major punishments. Inside of the court-house was very busy and hot. I decided to enter a trial of man who was a drug user and dealer. At first the bailiff didnt’t let me to get in but i convinced him. The court room was very small. In the middle, there were seats for the suspect and the gendarmes. Three gendarmes brought the in to the room. There was a handcuff on his hands. We were sitting behind the suspect. There were very few seats for audience. On the right corner, there was the attorney of the suspect. In front of the suspect, there was the bench of judges and prosecutor. Three judges and one prosecutor were behind the bench. The trial started by the speech of the had judge in the middle. At this moment, i understood that the guy was already a prisoner and this was an continuance trial. The woman who was just sitting under the had judge wrote everything he said on computer. The prisoner didn’t talk too much. He just gave two new suspect names and three licence plate number about the drug dealers. The defense attorney didn’t talk about anything important. He just accepted what the judge said. Finally, the trial is postponed to April and the imprisonment condition of the prisoner has continued until next trail. The trial dured about fifteen minutes. I was expecting something longer and more talkings from defendant.

I went the same trial with Efe in Kadikoy Courthouse. When we first went there, there was a complication. There was an important trial of a murder which we wanted to watch but the court crier didn't let us in. I think he thougt that trial could be frightening for us. And then we went to watch another trial about drug deal. Three gendarmes brought the defendant who is trafficker. He was under arrest. His attorney haven't talked too much. He accept all the things the judge said. When the judge asked to defendant about his ideas, he answered that he is verry sorry because of using drugs and glad to be in prison because of being cleaned. I think theese words belongs to his attorney because I couldn't see any expression about being glad. But he explained that he had confesses about other traffickers and told the judge he was afraid of them because being threatened. The judges decided to open an investigation about that guys who the defendant talked about. And he asked to prosecutor about his thoughts. The trial was very short and quick. It was like 10 minutes. The room was small but sweet. I really liked the gown which all of them wore. They were looking so charismatic. I would like too see another trial about murder.

I went to the court of Şişli.We(Me,Esra and Salih)asked to the bailiff if we can watch a trial and he said when the trial is over and the door is open get in and sit down somewhere. And we did. Before the judge started the trial he told to Esra that she needs to sit down properly.Because she has crossed one's legs. Then the trial began. It was about fraud. The crime has been commited in 2006 but the suspect said that he was in prison in that time. However it was unclear that if the suspect is in prison or not.So the postponed the case to a further date.We listened two cases. This one took 20 minutes and the other one took 30 minutes. But in the other one,the suspect was famous Turkish singer İbrahim Tatlıses. That case was very funny but I think it was meaningless. But I think the Turkish Judicial System doesn't work how it suppose to.Because in the court, judge and prosecutor were listening to music, the bailiff is a king there, prosecutor does nothing,he just sits there and play video games on his computer I think.I don't think no one could serve justice from a place and environment like that.

I was with my friends from our section when we visited the courthouse in Beyoğlu. It was an interesting experience. While we waited some of our friends to arrive, I went inside to check the schedule of the trials. The police was very welcoming, so he let me sit and pick any trial that we want. It was not easy to pick because there were many. To find an agreement, we decided that we attend a murder case. The courtroom was very small, and there were some family members of the victim. In order to sit the prosecutor asked more chairs and I sat near him. He was very polite and helpful because it is nearly impossible to understand the judge’s accent so he explained the case. After the murder trial, we wanted to stay and watch another one. The second one was a case of fraud and the defendant was very angry that the students were watching. After the second one we were really attached to the court room so we watched another about narcotics. The defendant had no idea about what he was talking about that made the judge very angry and he started yelling. The defendant also argued with the witness which made the witness to change his testimony. Through all of our cases, the president judge did not listen the defendants; he was talking very fast with an incomprehensible accent. The court rooms were out of order and seriousness. However, judges and prosecutor paid attention to us, they asked many questions about our class and school they also answered all of the questions we asked.

The courtroom was simple and old however I was not expecting a well decorated new courtroom anyways. Most of the courtrooms in Turkey are usually not as charismatic as the courtrooms in Europe or USA that we see in the movies. The 3 judges and the prosecuter was sitting together on a higher platform. There were two tables for the defense and victim's lawyers facing each other. In the middle there was the defendant and at the back there were banches for the families and people to watch. We however sit on the victim table throughout the whole trials we have watched since two of the defendant lawyers never showed up. It was funny.
The atmosphere was different. We were eight people and all of us were excited since it was the first time that we were in a real courtroom so we watched 3 trials. I don't know why but the judges and the prosecuter didn't seem to care about the defendants. Judge asked questions but he was speaking in a low voice and too fast that even I could not understand what he was saying though I was sitting next to the court clerk. There were lots of legal terminology and unnecessary long explanations. No one especially defendants didn't care because they did not understand what he was saying. All they cared was their punishments.
It was a bit tense and sad situation for me to watch those people without any legal assistance, waiting for their punishments and justice. Unfortunately none of them were given.
It was a great experience for me to observe a real trial. They took a strong interest in us, asked questions and answered ours yet I would prefere them showing all their interest to those people eventhough they were guilty.

We went to courthouse in beyoğlu. It was a perfect experience for me.
There were lots of court rooms but i guess more than fifty. Eylül and Mehveş picked a court room and we entered the room. First trial was about a guy who killed his friend second one is about swindle and the last one is about narcotic. We can understand from here also; Eylül and Mehveş are psychopaths because they picked those trials.
At the court room there were 3 judges and one prosecutor. Our prosecuter was a good guy, because he was talking with us about trial while court continues. Most of my attention was at "yaz kızım" (court clerk). She was perfect, she was looking at computer like she didn't see before. And she was very very fast.
I really learned lots of thing it was a good experience for me.
At the end when we went out we saw the prosecuter while we were discussing about trials. And he explains some trials to us.
Everything was perfect except the people who are relatives of criminals.

When we arrived at the Beyoğlu Court House, I was a bit nervous because I did not know what to expect. It was going to be the first trial that I was going to watch. We went inside to look at the schedule. I asked for information to the secretary of the first courtroom, she was surprisingly very welcoming and kind to me. Needless to say, I did not expect that much of a welcoming attitude in a government unit. We were determined to see a murder case. The court room was small and unorganized. There were piles of files every where, and the judges looked bored, even though it was ten o’clock in the morning. The prosecutor was very friendly, he made us room to sit close to him and he sometimes gave information during the trial. We were eight students who came to watch trials, and it was the first time for all of us, so we were eager to watch as much as we could. We watched three trials, and I generally observed the defendants have nearly no rights in Turkey’s system. The judge hardly paid attention to what the defendant said; since the defendants had no lawyers, they tried to defend themselves on their own. Only one defendant lawyer showed up, but he spoke two times at most; one of them was the agreement of the next trial’s date. The judge was focused at the counter clerk, he looked like he was talking only to her. He corrected her when she wrote something wrong. The judgement book seemed to be the most important item, that was the biggest sign of the burocracy system. In order for us to understand, the prosecutor explained us what was going on during the first trial. We got used to the judge’s words in the next trials. We were sitting near the defendant lawyer’s desk so we had a computer in front of us, we could see what the counter clerk was writing and we could follow the trial from there. In one trial, a witness showed up and the judge asked her questions. The defendant tried to get in a conversation with the witness and the judge stopped him. All of the trials that I’ve been in were postponed. There were more evidence or witnesses necessary, and more questions that needed be answered to enlighten the case. This made me realize how slow a case continues. Of the three judges, one of them never spoke, he looked like he was busy with his mobile phone in the corner. The other one was involved in the conversation when there was a misunderstanding. The remaining one was the chief judge. Them and the prosecutor was sitting on a higher platform with too many papers and files in front of them. Overall, my courthouse experience was not bad, nor too surprising or enchanting. It was simple and plain, but I could easily understand that the perfect justice can not be obtained in our crooked system.

I went to the court house of Kadikoy. The bailff allowed us to get in to a criminal trial. The court room was small and hot. In the middle of the room there were seats surrounded by railings. This place were for defendants. There was a serious atmosphere. The bailff was creating this atmosphere for exemple he told my friend that she can not cross her one leg. Besides a lawyer was checking her text messages.
In the trial there were six lawyers and there were many defendents but only three of them showed up. The others are represented by their lawyers. One lawyer was defending more than one suspect. All of the defendants were accused of preparing fake documents and counterfeiting. All of the lawyers used the same sentence. The prosecutor did nothing. The judge asked defendents if they are guilty or not. One of the defendents said ”I have nothing to do with this” and than judge said ”Oh my poor son than why everbody is accusing you like this.” I was about to laugh at that time but i stopped myself because the bailff would kill me. And after this trial which dured like 25 minutes we wanted to get in a drug dealer’s trial but the bailff didn’t let us in. Finally, in the trial, all of the defendents are found not gulity because the fake documents could not be found. During the trial the judge figured out that name of a defendant is written wrong. That was a serious mistake.
The trial wasn’t what i expected too see, but i wasn’t surprised. I already knew that in Turkish system papers talk, not the participants. I would like to see a trial where participants were more active.

I went to the courthouse in Kadıköy with Esra. It was very small and there were lots of gypsies around. We took a look at the case-list and we decided to watch a case of 3 men wo were into custody of forgery. We found the bailif and said that we are law students and we need to watch an assize court. The room was small and sunny. There were 3 suspects, 3 lawywers at the right side and 3 lawyers at the left side. There were suspects who wasn't there. The suspects didn't talk too much only one of them explained the event(he was the administrator of the corporation) the other just said that they were innocent. While we were in the court the bailiff came and warned me because that I crossed my legs. The Judge found them innocent, and released them. The prosecutor didn't say a word. It was a great experience for me cause it was the first time I get into a case. The atmosphere was warmer than I expected because the Judge talked so comfortable and not formal.

We, as a group of people from the class, went to the court-house of Beyoglu. We observed three different trials. The courtroom was not anything like I expected but it was better than I feared. The court room was old, untidy and too small than we see in the movies. Three judges and one prosecutor was sitting at a higher platform. We know that what they are doing is important but I wonder do they know this too? Because one of the judges was almost asleep, the other judge played with her phone and the prosecutor talked with us. Because the court room was so small I had to squeeze behind the desk of the judges so I could see almost everything they were doing. I expected the lawyers to be more active in a trial but they almost said nothing, and also at the last trial we watched, the defendant filed for an attorney, but the Bar of Istanbul couldn't provide one, since attorneys quit working. There were paper all over the place. The similarity in all of the cases was none of them came to an end. Judges kept postponing the date. Once we all got up suddenly, and i had no idea why we did that, but later I found out that the witness was swearing. We once got up along with the prosecutor and went to a smaller room at the back. The prosecutor told us that the judges were deciding a mid-conclusion. The attitude of the judges were not appropriate, at least thats what I thought. The main-judge (who sit at the middle)talked in a way that none of us could understand and he didn't even listen the defendant. He just ignored everyone else. The suprise was that our legal system has innovated and the whole process was written to a legal program by the computer and they had screens at the attorneys desks for others to understand. If we look at the people's attitudes towards us, it was better than I expected. They were very welcomming, especially the prosecutor. Overall this was a cool and informative experience for me even though most of the time whats happening didn't fit my expectations.

I went to the court house in Şişli with Kerem and Salih. We asked the bailiff if we could watch a trial because we were law students and he let us in to one of the courts. In general the court house was like a ruin. Since there is a new and big court house is under construction for several years, current court houses don’t get any maintenance work done. The courtroom was small. The judge and the prosecutor were sitting high at the same level and the lawyers were at the normal ground level. I think this is wrong because it creates a hierarchy between the prosecutor and the lawyers. There was a symphony playing during the trials, probably from the prosecutor’s computer. The benches of the lawyers, suspect and audience were old although the judge and the prosecutor had new desks and chairs. The trial was being recorded by a man on computer and there were computer screens in front of the judge, prosecutor and each party’s lawyers which showed the records as they were being written to prevent any mistakes.

The first case was about fraud. Just as soon as the case started the judge told me to sit properly because I was sitting my legs crossed. I got scared because I thought he could tell us to leave. The prosecutor had his laptop in front of him and he barely paid attention to the trial. He didn’t say a word in the first trial. We thought he was playing Farmville on Facebook. The defense attorney was 73 years old and he had hearing problems. His phone rang in the trial. The bailiff asked him to switch off his cell phone but instead he answered the call. The judge was annoyed by this. The fraud, which was subject to the trial, happened in 2006 and the suspect claims that he was in prison at that time. This trial started almost two years ago but since the defense can’t present the official documents to the court which shows the defendant’s alibi, the judge can’t end it. In the end, he postponed the trial again. After he ended this trial, he asked some questions to us. He was actually nice to us during this little conversation compared to his attitude during the trial. Then the next trial began and he became serious again. The second case was about a small fight between İbrahim Tatlıses (with his bodyguards) and some other men. Ibrahim Tatlıses and his bodyguards were defendants in this trial although Tatlıses didn’t show up. They had two lawyers who looked very professional but the other side didn’t have any. The prosecutor said two or three words in this trial although we couldn’t hear what he said – he wasn’t saying anything significant anyway.

I’ve been to a courtroom before but it was a civil trial and I was too young to remember details. Still, I can remember the general atmosphere and trial process. This experiment matched my expectations since I could guess what a trial would be like. However I didn’t like it very much. I would rather see a trial with both sides being more active and the process being more rapid.

Actually, going to court room and tracking a criminal case was a good experience for me.
I saw how the court officials have to act and what they have to be careful about. I saw the way how lawyers defend their clients and what kind of arguments they use. Morover, i saw that court rooms are more serious and gergin places than they are seen by outside.
    Court room:
First, let's talk about the physical properties. At judicial bench, there are 3 judges, the one in the middle is the president of the court. Prosecutor is at the right side of the bench, plaintiff delegation is at left-under side of prosecutor, defendant's lawyer is at the opposite. Defendant's chair is at the opposite of the bench, behind it, there are witness chairs, at the back side there are chairs of the people who watch the trial.

    If we talk about the atmosphere of the courtroom;
Environment is very tense and silent in the court process. From the first time the seriousness of the court president is beginning to be felt. Unauthorized entry and exit to the hall is certainly impossible. I saw that, Bailiff takes the necessary measures by the door.

    President of the court:
He manages the court from beginning to end. The people who want to say something can not talk without his permission. I saw that he warned the misbehaving people, sharply.

    Other judges;
During the court, they do not talk very much. But in the end of the court, at the decision phase, they have right to vote like the president of the court.

    Prosecutor:
Prosecutor reads the indictment at the beginning of the court, after that, he does not talk very much during the court but he gets involved, when necessery. At the last phase of the court, court delegation asks for prosecutor’s opinion and the prosecutor tells his thoughts.

    Lawyer:
Defendant and the plaintiff lawyers are defending the rights of their clients.

    Bailiff:
He fulfills the request of the court president. He has obligations of bringing documents, controlling the witnesses and spectators.

Generally, at this criminal case, my expectations were met. Not much surprising situations happened. Only, I found it strange that judges were drinking something such as coffe and tea during the court. Also a tense atmosphere was inside than I expected and there were serious people.

Firstly, going to watch trial is a really amazing experience for us, ıt was so excited. I went to the court-house of Şişli with my class friend. We asked to bailiff, we could watch a criminal trial, he said us,you have to get permission from the judge to watch a trial. We went to talked three judges to get permission and the last one allowed us to enter court room. But I wanna say all judges who we talk, they are really nice, understanding and kind people, I didn't expect, because I always think they are very nervous and serious people but I was suprised.Şişli court house is very old building but, I have to say ıt's awful, horrible and terrible. I disappointed because, the court room which we watch a robbery case, ıt's tiny and very hot.Prosecutor was sitting on the right side of the judge and court clerk was sitting infront of them and write incredibly fast what the judge say.Defendant's chair is opposite of the bench and behind it the chair of audiences. And it's diffirent my expectation because, in the court room there are lots of old case files in the cabinets had iron,ıt's really awful. And judge has the all power, prosecutor didn't say anything and lawyers when say something irrelevant jugde interrupted sharply. When I watch some programes about trial at tv, the court room is big and the prosecutors have important role and lawyers talk to much but the real it dosen't like tv pogrames. I disappointed because I was expecting to be different.

Watching a trial in a court was a great experience for us who are future lawyers. I had never been to a court until yesterday. I had many expectations about the court and a trial before I went. I was imagining a big and crowded court room, but it was too small and not too crowded. We talked to bailiff and he helped us to be able to watch the trial. There are three judges, prosecutor, bailiff, defendant and defense attorney. The defendant was a drug user and he was more calm and relaxed than normal how a defendant is in fornt of the judges. First I think he had some mental problems, but after the trial I said maybe he was a good professional with his court experiences. When I arrived to the court, I was waititng a noisy place that people have argument or fight but it also more quiet than I expect. Next time I hope to watch a bigger case and trial, so I will be able to find enough excitement and action.

I chose the Bakırköy Courtroom because it's the biggest justice building in Turkey. I knew that i can find a interesting case. I went there at noon and the outside emperature was just 8 santigrat degre or something but the inside of building was like 30 degre. I don't want to work there in future, definitely. Anyway, at the end of my long search, I finally find a homicide trial. There was a young man who blamed for murder. His lawyer was trying to deny the all charges. But during his testimony, he claimed that he and the victim had gone to his home, eaten and gotten into an argument over something he could not remember. Than he said: ''Because I loved her so much, I went crazy. I don’t know if I went insane or what, but I lost myself. When I came back to my senses, I saw her dead on the floor. When I saw her like that, I knew I had done it to her, because there was nobody else in the house. When I saw her lifeless body I wanted to kill myself, but I couldn’t.''

The trial wasn't done but i decided to go away because the victim's family and them people were getting angry. I wasn't excepting nice scenes and i saw that i was totally right.

I went to the courthouse in Üsküdar. It was my first time in a courtroom and I was excited when I entered there. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed at the end. Things I saw in the court was below my expectations. Judges were treating lawyers and the court clerk as animals. They were shouting and humiliating them. Judges were only polite to some of the witnesses. Lawyers were interestingly calm and silent. They didn’t talk much during the cases. They only filled some papers, passed them to the judge and controlled if any wrong things came out of witnesses mouth or not. Furthermore, during one case, one of the judges talked with his phone. I think this type of action is disrespect to others. Also, during the cases, while one judge was listening the case, other two judges and the prosecutor were playing with their computers. They ordered things to drink while they were listening the witnesses. Although they seemed as disrespectful and rude people in the court, both the prosecutor and the judges treated me very politely. I met them before the start. They invited me to their rooms, talked about football, ordered tea for me and gave me information about the law process. The court room I was small and it was smelling bad. There were cables on the floor, and desks were made of wood. There were ten small chairs for the visitors. Only the chairs of the judges and the prosecutor were different. There were seven computers in the room: three for the judges, one for the prosecutor, one for the court clerk, and two for the lawyers.

  19. I went to Beyoğlu Courtroom. The court room is classic. Three judges were sitting up and reads the case. The court room was too small. I joined two different cases. One of them about, someone killed his friend. The murderer came to the court room with three gendarmes. His lawyer was sitting right side of the room to me. And left of the room plaintiffs and their lawyers. He injured his friend with a knife. After that he scared and brought him to the hospital. when his friend were sore he wanted to go to his home despite the doctors attentions. after that he died. Because of this situation the murder didnt want to stay in the jail for 25 years. he and his lawyer wanted to get punishment about injuring someone not for killing. the murder was sitting very cool and he didnt answer any of the questions. his lawyers answered all of the questions for him. Also I saw witnesses about this case. They said all of the story and the lawyers asked lots of questions to him. I really like this case, because it like what should be like for me. In other case one of the man was thief and he hasnt got any lawyer. also the planiff hasnt got any lawyer. Because it is not very big case like the other one. The thief got 3 years (in jail) and 900TL punishment for this case.
I just didnt like the judges because they were behaved very rudely to the lawyers. But except this, I like how its going on. Just the timeline not so good, because they have lots of cases because of that they gave the time too late.

Suspect's lawyer was right infront of me and the plaintiff was left to me. first case, suspcet was a thief who stole a old woman's money in front of the bank. this case was very short. almost judge talked. but second case was exciting. because suspect killed business associate and there were two witnesses. suspect, killer was so calm. but the evenement , suspect knifed his fried and then he took him a hospıtal but his friedn didn't want to been cure. he exited at hospıtal with his desire. anda then he died. the defendant made use his death to he choose because he recuse his cure. suspects lawyer want to get punishment for injuring not for killing, because the punishment will be less than it. ı lıke this case because this one was more interesting than other but ı dont like this system because every case was very fast. and all of the power is in judge's hand.

Courtroom: Courtroom was a old one but tidy. There were three judges and a prosecutor on a platform. And there was a secrertary women in front of the judges. At the right there waslawyer of defendant. And at the left there was a plaintiff. But he had no lawyer. And, prosecutor was at the left of judges.

Trial: The trial that i entered, was about grab and despoliation. Defendant was accused of grabbing and fake script organization. According to plantiff, he (plantiff) barrowed from defendant with high interest. And he had been paying his loan from time to time. But defendant and his friend had never stooped to want money, even though there were any more loan. And defendant traad on plantiif's house and grap his and his wife's properties; and he thread plantiff with a real gun. And according to plantiff's wife defendant rape her. On the other hand, according to defendant; he had given loan to plantiff because of earn interest but plantiff had never paid money. In the begining he had wanted his money form plantiff gently; but afterwards he had been angry and he had shown some impoliteness. But he had never thread plantiff or his wife; and he had never use a real gun. Also, he had not raped plantiff's wife; on the contrary, he had benn together with plantiff's wife by her own will. The jugde listened plantiff'wife as a witness; he assked her her (old) husband's and defendant's claims. He defened her old husband and enied defendant. But when the judge wanted a history ( time) of events; she said that she had forgotten the all time and histories. So, judge doupted , and ask ed same question to plantiff. And he said that he had not remembered all histories obviously. Then the judge was angry. Also, the lawyer of defendant was very paciff. He only said that we have a witness!!! And judge seem like that he regard lawyer. I watched the case about 2 hours and i exited. When i exited, i noticed that to be judge is very difficult. because, they encounter many people like guilty and bad, and they need very strong psychology. Also i don't want to be lawyer anymore, because in Turkish juctice system, lawyers are not very important. And to be lawyer in Turkey must be very boring. And i noticed another thing that the judges become a judge of character, people.

Matching: My expectations are parellel to my experience of case. But, only i was suprised that judges see many guilty people, but they don' be suprised no longer. However, even though my expectations i was very suprised. In trial i noticed, judge used tmany law's rules in a minute; and i noticed that they had become the machine of aplication of rulues. Every thing was very fast, and only the important thing there are, is rules. I understood in law the most important thing is the rules not juctice.

I went to court house in Beyoğlu as a group of people from class. Actually last year because of my driving licence's application I have to go justice so actually I know what to expect but of course criminal cases are different. We watched three different trials. First we check the schedule since all of us want to see a murder case. The court room was too small than we see in movies. First we couldn’t find place to sit. There was three judge and one prosecutor but the judges look bored actually I didn’t understand one of the judge’s sentences that he said while in court. I think he has a different accent. But the prosecutor was friendly. He made a room for us to sit. Sometimes he gave a information about cases that we did not understand. While in the trial I observed that the judges don’t listen the defendant’s problem actually the reasons of these are the cases that we observed wasn’t new and the defendants had no lawyers except the first one. Nearly all of the cases the judge was focused at the counter clerk. They wrote what was the case about and what the defendants were saying. We had a computer in front of us, we could follow the trial from there. The last trial that we entered ,the court attendant called the witness. Three trial that we observed were postponed. Actually in the trial only one of the judge and the prosecutor spoke but all of them tried to answer our question while in the mid conclusion. Shortly I felt surprised since I thought that the judges and the prosecutors to be more acute. Even this experience didn’t match with my expectations I enjoy myself.

I visited the courthouse at Beyoglu. It was amazing experience for me and my friends. ın the court room there were three judges and one prosecutor. The room was very little and i can say that is not modern. I watched 3 different case about crime. The judges were not interested in the cases. They were playing with their computers while the witnesses were talking about the case. Judges were acting disrespectful. Prosecutor was also not interested in the cases. He didnt talk too much. Lawyers didn't talk much also. They only listened what the judges say.ı had imagıned lawyers who were more actif. The prosecutor was funny he talked with us and told how this things are working

I went to court room of Beyoğlu with some of my friends .To be honest before I went to court I hadn’t believed having such a great time .It was a very good experience for me.We went there on friday and we learnt that fridays are verdict days. The thing that made me very happy was nearly everbody working in the court were very welcoming, very kind to us.The bailiff who was a very kind man with a big smile on his face showed us the courtroom. As my friends said courtroom was very small. We sat near the lawyers who were waiting their trials. There were three judges(two men and a woman) and a prosecutor. We observed three trials. Both of the trials prosecutor did nothing,he was about to sleep. The woman judge is the head I guess because she talked a lot.She was a very goodlooking woman with nice clothes she was very kind to us.First and second trials were very fast and we couldn’t see the criminals but the third one was very exciting. It was long, judges discussed about it a lot.The criminal was about to cry,his lawyer made a perfect speech.Three police who seem very very angry were standing around the criminal person. After a while judges wanted a break for five minutes to make a decision. While judges were discussing we were watching them,I felt very excited at that moment, but they couldn’t be sure about his guilt, one of them said after that trial his ideas changed a lot and he started to believe the criminal suspects innocence. And so they postponed the trial.I’m very curious about the decision of this trial. And another thing I remember very well is the speed of the court clerk. He was writing very rapidly,he didn’t need to look at the computer at all.It was the first time I’ve been in a court and as I said it was a great experience for me,I saw that I’ve some wrong guesses about a trial, for example it was not as formal as I thought.I’d love to visit a trial again.

I went to Beyoğlu court room with my friends from our class. Actually, I worried about the atmosphere of the court room, but this anxiety had turned itself to satisfaction, because, firstly, the room was not small and hot as my friends had said, secondly the court attendant was very kind, and seemed hospitable, thirdly, the judge who was a lady, was well- groomed even she is aged, the other two male judges were talkative, but the male prosecutor was silent. The most impressive thing was, the lady judge was like a manager, she was leading the court and the other male judges just told their opinions about the case, for me she was a good example of being judges for girls, beacuse as she was good looking she was also doing her job very well. On the other hand, the attorneys were inattive to themselves this shows the degree of respects to their jobs and themselves. Also the male court clerk was young, and seemed good. He was writing quickly what the lady judge say. While he was writing, the lady judge controled what he writes on the computer. Even the day that we went there was a verdict day, the three trial they we observed were postponed. First two trials had taken a little time which we couldnt see the criminals, but the third trial was so interesting for me, beacuse the event has happened near our university. As ı was shocked when I heard it, my friends shocked, too. At that moment, we realized to be more careful near our university. As a result, this was the first time that ı have been in the case, and ı am glad to see a lady judge in the case.

I went to the Bakirkoy Courtroom. I expected different and exciting place. But that place was unexpected. The courtroom was hot, stuffy and annoying. I didn't like to be there. There were many complicated situations and noises. That tension put me out of temper. I always thought that it will be like in "the devil's advocate". But unfortunately in Turkey being legist and being in courtroom are not magical.
A trial I saw was about a woman who stabbed another woman. Both of women were so nervous. The judges and prosecutor were bored and tired. There were another students and legal practitioners too. Everyone has respect to the court.
The judge found defendant guilty. But there were extenuating circumstances. And unhappily the lawyers were not active like I expected.

I visited to assize court in Sultanahmet. The court was old and very tiny. It was full with folders and notebooks of cumulative cases. Bookshelves weren't enough for them and so they were stowed on the floor. Also there were so many books and folders in front of the judge. There were three judges and prosecutor was just right of them. The court clerk took place in front of the presiding judge and opposite to witness stand. Defendant's dock was behind of the witness stand and audience sitting was back most. Table of defendant's attorney was right and victims's table was left of the court by facing each other. I watched five cases there in a short span of time. It was a hearing more than a trial. There was no adversities because i didn't see any attorney of victim and the judgge's questions wasn't enough to create a debate. one of the imoortant reasons of this condition was the judge's power was much more than any attorney. Also the speeches were olmost trivial in view of documentary meterials. The lenghty process was the time when the judge made clerk write the decision of the trial. Besides the prosecutor and the judge was like doing their jobs by exchanging of ideas. None of the cases were adjudicated and they were carried over though. It was a hearing more than a trial and was so boring. I had had some ideas about trials in Turkey before this experience but i didn't expect something like that much drab. When i tried to recall something remarkable about those cases i couldn't. They were like all the same. It was really a disappointment.

There were lots of court rooms and all of them were very small. I decided to get in. The judge and the prosecutor were sitting high. Judges do not talk very much. Defendant and the plaintiff lawyers are defending the rights of their clients. Also I saw witnesses about this case. I went to Bakırköy courtroom with some of my friends. When I saw the courthouse I hope that inside of the courthouse is as fabulous as the exterior, but it wasn’t. First we looked at the trials which is different for us, but the time that we went there the most interesting trials were finished, for that reason we could have a chance to participate the criminal trial which is about aiding and abetting drugs. At first, the bailiff told us that he had to ask authorities if we can participate or not, then he said that we can enter into the courtroom. When we got in the courtroom we all sit across three judges and the prosecutor. They were sitting in a higher platform. Defendants were in front of the judges and prosecutor, they were between to gendarme. It was very different experience for me. When we were in trial the most surprising event was a phone call. While the prosecutor was asking some questions to the witness his cell phone rang, we all surprised but the more surprising thing, he answer it! He said ‘I am busy now, I will call you later’. The second interesting thing about the witness was, his cell phone rang too and with a folk song… I was expecting stricter rules and more seriousness in the courtroom. So my experiences did not match with my expectations of a trial.

In case of murder, defendant was under arrest so there was four Jandarma. Three of them just stand and one of them was president. judges and prosecutor were very careful about cases. they discussed then they decided the punishment. I didn't think that judge gave weight to case very much. I suprized because they didn't decide anything carelessly. We saw 3 trails and the most excited one is the third one. There were 3 judges and one of them was woman. I think it was a really good experience to watch over a female judge. She was very pretty and emotional. And it made me think; is it good to be emotional when you are a judge. I think it is harmless when you proportion correctly.
I didn't like the attitude of prosecutor. He was really sleepy and irrelevant about the case.
The atmosphere was depressing but not too much so it was a better atmosphere than I expect. It was a small room and it was hot most of the time.
Lawyers were well prepared and respectful. I could examine their reactions easily because we sat next to them.
Male court clerk was young and he wrote down all the things judge said very quickly.
It was my first visit to a court and ı want to visit more because it was a really interesting experience. And visiting more will make me familiar to the courts and different situtations, so it will be useful for my future I think.

I went to Kadıköy Courthouse with Yasemin. Every floor had different types of cases. We watched several cases however they all lasted very short. In the coutrroom the defense and Victims lawyer's tables were placed next to each other. They were directly placed facing the judge. Next to judge there was prosecutor. Prosecutor was not interested in cases deeply as the judge. He was usually reading some other cases and signing them. In some cases defendants weren't present. In the courtroom judge plays the most active role. He listens than he decides what to very quickly. In some cases because of that it was hard to keep up with. Witnesses didn't have specific place. They gave their testimonies in front of the judge. I really enjoyed the experience. It was really great to use that terms and be able to understand some of them. Before ı went to a courtroom I was really excited to experience that atmosphere. In the end I wasn'a a dissapointment for me. I want to go and watch different cases from time to time.

  39. I went to a courthouse in Kadıköy and it was the old one. The court room was older and simpler than what I have expected. As far as I know, there are three judges and one prosecuter sitting next to eachother, and the courts are extremely large.
The court that I have gone to was the same size of a house room and I have seen only one judge and prosecuter. The prosecuter was sitting next to the judge and he didn't have many tasks. There were two banks in front of the judge; at the right there was the plaintiff and at the left there was the defendant. At the trial that I have observed sometimes the plaintiff wasn't in the court and sometimes the defendant and there weren't lawyers in some of the cases.
As soon as I have stepped into the room the judge was asking to the defendant specific questions, from time to time almost screaming, yet the tension was high.
Observing the case, I sat at the victim's seat, then followed the trial from the other corner of court after taking the judge's permission.
I even thought of not taking out my jacket because of the atmosphere.
Briefly, I can say that the image that shows the cold, serious face of courts have disappeared from my mind the court seemed as a simple one in the use of formality. Throughout the six cases that I have watched in a hour the prosecuter was sleeping next to the judge.
The lawyers were not so serious either, every question left at somewhere, I may tell that the future opportunuties are valuable as gold in the law section, so it was a perfect experience for me. Eventhough the system seems to be corrupted, I left great memories behind, reincarnating my soul that shouted out "freedom" and "equalit".

The prosecutor hasn't speak at least one time i didn't understand that he was the prosecutor. Judge was so agressive when the defendant's lawyer wanted to speak he didn't let him so many times. Witness was waiting out of the room when the judge called he came in he stand between defendants and plaintiffs. The atmosphere was so informal the witnesses phone rang, the judge's phone rang too and he opened it. A couple of my classmates and I recently went to Bakırköy courthouse to view a court hearing of a criminal lawsuit. It was a brand new experience for all of us hence the excitement was palpable. When we first entered the building we were fascinated by its overwhelming size. Then we began our quest to find where the criminal law suit hearings took place. After we found the room, a lawyer; who we later on discovered was the attorney of the defendent, suggested that we attended the hearing and we accepted willingly. We informed the bailiff that we were law students so he let us in with no hesitation. The courtroom was smaller then we had expected it to be however it was enthralling to finally be in one. We found our seats right away and began to examine. The defendent of the hearing was being accused of defrauding a fabrics factory. The hearing was moving at a rather slow pace but what got my attention the most were the three judges and the prosecutor who were having trouble keeping themselves awake. The prosecutor was scribbling on the sheets before him and the three judges were extremely strict with only one of them doing all the talking. What really frustrated me was that one of the judges' phone rang in the middle of the hearing and he was tactless enough to answer and say thay he was busy at the moment and that he would call back. I found his attitude very disturbing because he kept on asking for respect within the courtroom yet he was showing none. The defense attorney did not stop shouting throughout the whole hearing and not once did he ask for permission. The conversation between the judge and the attorney soon broke into an argument. I also noticed that there was a paralegal who was sitting next to the defense lawyer. This experience reminded me of the one ı had last summer in Sultanahmet during my internship, so I wasn't suprised by peoples attitudes. Thanks to my experience I now have a certain picture of how a court hearing can be.

Judge behaved him so rudely. During the trial, the witness's and the judge's phones rang, judge answered it. I expect more strict rules, tense atmosphere but it wasn't. I can't believe the judge's behaviour through the lawyers. He was so rude. This experience didn't match my expectations.

I went to Sisli courthouse to watch a case. The case was about murder. The court room was really small and I was disappointed because I didn’t expect such a small courtroom with piles of documents at the back of the seats. We got the permission from the bailiff to watch the case. Prosecutor was at the left side of the bench and the judge was on the right side. Plaintiff and the defense was in front of the bench. Plaintiff was at the lower left side and defendant's lawyer is on the lower right side. Defendant is at the opposite of the bench and we sit behind him(witness chair for ones who want to watch the trail), three gendarmes brought the defendant in to the room and there was handcuffs on his hands. Court clerk was sitting in front of the judge. The prosecutor and the judge were whispering all the time and they were clearly negotiating about the punishment. The courtroom seems really careless and untidy; there were piles of documents on the floor, The judge and the prosecutor was talking constantly and sometimes they laughed. I didn’t expect such a informal trial, I guess nobody really cares about it. But it was a good experience for me to see where I’m gonna be while I’m working.

I went to court of Şişli with Kerem Gülsoy and Esra Canpulat. We watched two trial. First trial was about fraud. The crime has been commited in 2006 but the suspect said that he was in prison in that time. However it was unclear that if the suspect is in prison or not. So the trial was postponed. This trial’s lawyer who very old man irritated the judge. He used the phone during the trial. This trial took 20 minutes nearly. When the first trial ended, judge asked some question us. He was actually likeable to us during this little conversation compared to his attitude during the trial. Then second trial started and judge became serious again. The second trial was about a small fight between İbrahim Tatlıses and his bodyguard and some building workers. They had two lawyers who looked very professional but the other side didn’t have any. Because they want to drop the charge and they did it.
I want to pay close attention about something. First of all, the judge has a big power in the court. He is trying to make respect for the court. But this not like this, i think this is about their ego. For example, the judge warned esra because she crossed one’s legs. Secondly, the prosecutors did nothing. The during the 2 trial he said one or two sentences. We think he played some computer games, maybe farmwill in facebook. Thirdly, a mystreious instrumental music played in the court. This was interesting for us. Finally there is a saying Confucius on the court’s wall. He who exercises government by means of his virtue may be compared to the north polar star, which keeps its place and all the stars turn towards it.

  48. The court room was as follows: three judges were at the front part of the room with the prosecuter on their right. In front of them stood the secretary with her computer. The plaintiffs stood on the left part of the court and there was another screen, again in the left part of the room, which enabled the plaintiff and his/her attorney to see what the judges made the secretary write. The defendant stood up in front of the judges behind barrels and with two jandarmas on his/her sides. The defense attorney stood on the judges' right side. The trials and the court were a little bit better than I expected because I was expecting for a greater dramatisation by the defendants and their families but I am glad that did not happen. Also the technological features (such as the screen on the plaintiffs' side) surprised me. However, I was waiting for the defense attorneys to be more enthousiastic although they barely spoke. Finally, neither of the three trials ended with a final decision which did not surprise me.

I went to the courthouse of Bakırköy with some friends of mine. The courthouse building was huge, modern and fascinating. But interior of the courthouse was a disappointment for me. It wasn’t different than a typical governmental agency. We have been to 2 trials; one of them was about using and selling drugs, which we entered in the middle, and the other one was about fakery. I found the second trial more interesting than the other one. The courtroom was really small and airless. The atmosphere was very stressful and tense because of the case. There were three judges in the trial but just one of them was active. Also the judge didn’t let the defense attorney to talk properly. I found his behavior really rude. The prosecutor didn’t talk at all and because of that I didn’t notice him during the trial. Also during the trial a few cell phones rang. One of them was witness’, the other one was judge’s. It was really ironic and ridiculous. In conclusion, I can say that this experience was below my expectations.

I went to court room in şişli. ıt was a good experience. There were four court room and these court room are very small. The atmosphere is very different. I have different views about the trial. There were three judges. The judges didn't talk much and the case had a very
short time. Plaintiff and defendant lawyers have made to defend. There were witnesses of the parties. I was great experience for me.I want to again.

I went to court room at Bakırkoy. You said that it is the best so i went there and you were right. the building is so new and clean from the others. I wanted to see criminal court but at that time there wasnt so i had to go one which was about money. It was a good experience for me because i had never gone to a court room before and i didnt know that judges are that much powerful. Even the lawyers couldnt say anything they couldnt even ask questions. The judge asked, spoke and decided. I just sat there and couldnt believe what was going on. I always wanted to be a business lawyer and never go courts. That visit didn't chance my mind even a little bit. I understood that my decision as right. And if i compare the U.S system and ours, the U.S system is better. At least in U.S lawyers can speak and 12 person decide not just one person speaks and decide like our judge.

I visited a courthouse in Kartal with my father.Because that was a trial which my dad was a lawyer. It was an interesting experience for me because it was my first time to go to a trial. It was a murder case and my dad was defending the murder suspect. It was a very small courthouse and i sat next to the family of the suspect. They were 3 people, suspect’s mom,dad and his brother. There was three judges and one prosecutor and there was a girl which was the court clerk. She was a very young woman and she wrote very fast like a jet.

It was like what i expected before. It was like the movies.

I learned a lot of things from my dad and judges.İt was a great experince for me. In conclusion; of course my dad won the case and then we went to celebrate.
